The Penola Innovation Centre (PIC) is the literal and figurative "heart" of our College. Known affectionately during its development as The Heart Project, the PIC connects the Middle School, Senior School, the Library, and our gymnasiums.

The name Penola holds deep significance in the story of Australia鈥檚 first saint, Mary MacKillop, and her mentor, Fr Julian Tenison Woods. By choosing the name Penola, we honour this spirit of courage, vision, and dedication to the needs of others.
Just as Penola was the birthplace of innovation in education through Mary and Julian鈥檚 bold steps, our Penola Innovation Centre is a place where creativity, collaboration, and new ideas flourish. It reminds us that true innovation is not only about technology or modern spaces, but about using our gifts to serve others and make a difference.
The PIC is engineered for a future-focused education, featuring:
- STEM & Science Hub: Home to state-of-the-art science laboratories and dedicated IT and STEM facilities that encourage hands-on discovery and technical skill-building.
- Collaborative Learning: In addition to modern classrooms, the Centre provides various breakout spaces designed for independent study and group collaboration.
The Ballygriffin Cafe
Located at the heart of the Penola Innovation Centre, the Ballygriffin Cafe is a vibrant social hub for the College community.
Equipped with a full commercial kitchen, the caf茅 serves students and staff throughout the school day鈥攐pening for breakfast, recess, and lunch. It provides a modern dining experience with a barista service, a fresh bakery selection, and a diverse range of nutritious meal options.
The caf茅鈥檚 impact extends beyond our own campus, as it also:
- Supports the Community: Manages and caters daily lunch orders for the Launceston Catholic Primary Schools.
- College Events: Provides professional catering for College functions and special events.
